Teaching

I have been teaching college-level mathematics as an instructor of record since 2014. I am always striving to be a better teacher and mentor. My philosophy on teaching continues to evolve as I learn, but a few things remain constant:

Students construct their knowledge of mathematics, and thus, must be architects of their learning by taking ownership and playing a significant, active role in the classroom.

Student Resources

Below are useful resources and information for my students:

Office Hours

My office is Room 221 of the AC-1 building (Building 74). My posted office hours are posted to Canvas. Contact me for an appointment.

What are office hours?

Office hours are an opportunity to meet with me to discuss concepts and problems from class — to get help. You do not need an appointment to meet with me during my scheduled office hours. Just show up with the following policies in mind…

Office Hour Policies

Make the most of your time by being prepared for office hours. Bring your notes and textbook. Bring cleanly-written work showing your attempts and thoughts about problems. I will be unable to help in a meaningful way if you have not spent significant time working problems and trying to understand the material. If you arrive at my office but still need to prepare any of the above, I will kindly ask you to return once you have prepared.

Email

My Email Policy

Please use email to contact me when you have a question. During regular business hours, I will respond as soon as I can, usually within 24 hours. However, I will respond to no email after 5:00pm on weekdays, no email after 3:00pm on Saturday, and no email on Sunday.

Email Etiquette

Please address me as “Dr. Hamidi” or “Professor Hamidi,” unless informed otherwise. The link below has some useful tips for writing professional emails.
